Introducing King Gumbo - The Official Mascot of The Gumbo Cook-Off !!!

Temperatures are cooling and the pots are getting hot! We've got Gumbo on the brain and are gearing up for the 2023 Gumbo Cook-Off!

Today's Home Bank Feel Good Friday segment was on The Gumbo Foundation who are holding their annual Gumbo Cookoff tomorrow in Opelousas. You can listen to my interview with the organization president, Tim Marks, and get all of the details here.

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY)– This Saturday, Jan. 29, the 16th annual “Battle for the Paddle” gumbo cook-off will be held in Downtown Opelousas at 521 E. Landry St. from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Proceeds from year’s cook off will be used to assist three-year old Zaidee, who has Infantile Nueroaxonal Dystrophy, and her parents with her care.

Each year, Homestead employees can pay $1 on Fridays to wear jeans. At the end of the year, one of our employees gets to donate the money collected to a local charity. This year, Dodi Arceneaux chose The Gumbo Foundation because of the exceptional work they do helping children battling cancer and other devasting illnesses. Here’s Dodi presenting a $3,000 check to Tim Marks of The Gumbo Foundation. Thank you Gumbo Foundation for helping those in need.

Annual gumbo cook-off in Opelousas to raise money for teenager with genetic disorder:

The 13th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off heats up Saturday, January 26th, 2018 for a good cause. The event is held each year in downtown Opelousas on the Corner of Landry and Oak Streets (521 East Landry Street), near Frank's Poboys and Doran & Cawthorne Law Firm. The beneficiary of The 13th Annual Gumbo Cook-Off is fourteen year old, Kylie Coulon. Kylie was born October 11, 2004 with a genetic disorder called Methylmalonic Acidemia, an inherited condition where the body is unable to process certain proteins and fats correctly. It can result in a number of issues including developmental delays, failure to thrive, long term feeding problems, and chronic kidney disease. Kylie had liver and kidney transplants in 2012 and had been doing well until last February, when she began experiencing kidney related complications. She has been at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston since July 16, 2018, with most of that time spent in ICU. Kylie's treatment regimen requires a special diet, renal formula by feeding tube, and a number of medications.
